Chimbel flyover work order already awarded: Minister

Says contractor has been appointed for project

OLD GOA

PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that a contractor has been appointed for the construction of the Chimbel flyover project, the work order for which has been awarded.

The statement comes against the backdrop of the Chimbel locals threatening to block the road if the work on the flyover is not taken up immediately.

Speaking to reporters, Cabral said, “The contractor has been appointed and work order has already been awarded, and testing is underway.”

Cabral further said the project will be undertaken in two phases.

“First, a two-lane overbridge will be constructed over the pillars which are already built. I have asked the contractor to provide the bar chart and I will personally monitor the work,” he stated.

“Another two-lane overbridge will then be taken up along with service roads on both the sides. I have done my job and I am waiting for the submission of the bar charts,” Cabral pointed out.

When questioned when the work will be completed, Cabral said until and unless the bar chart is made available, he is not in a position to give the time-frame.

“As per the tender, the contractor has 365 days to complete the project but I will ensure that it is completed before that,” the minister said.

“I have also asked St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes to provide the place for the contractor to set up the RMC plant for pre-casting work,” he added.

When pointed out that the work on the service road is not yet started, Cabral said the alignment needs to be done first after which the service roads will also be taken up.

“The priority is to build the overbridge as the traffic will be diverted over it,” Cabral said.
