Parents of students at Government Primary Schools in Sanguem are livid over the education department’s alleged step-motherly treatment towards schools in remote parts of the taluka.
While last week, the Government Primary School at Valkini was in the news for functioning without a teacher, prompting the PTA to ask a local to conduct classes for three days, another government school at Kumari-Bhati is reportedly functioning without a teacher since Friday.
Around 15 students from Stds 1-4 at the Government Primary School in Kumari have been left without a teacher, after their teacher was transferred to the Valkini GPS to resolve the situation in that school for a few days.
A trained English teacher from the Government Primary School at Bhati was then asked to join the Kumari School for a few days.
The teacher joined the GPS at Kumari for a few days but stopped going there since Friday as there was no written order to the effect.
When the Sanguem ADEI Sitaram Naik reached the Kumari School at 8.10 am on Monday, he was shocked to find the school without a teacher. He decided to take the class himself till the students were served with mid-day meals.
Naik later proceeded to the GPS Bhati to inquire as to why the teacher had not reported for duties at the Kumari GPS. He was then told by the teacher concerned that she cannot join duties at the Kumari GPS without written orders.
At Bhati, Naik was also confronted by parents and they bluntly told him that they will not permit their teacher to go elsewhere before another teacher is appointed to their school.
After listening to their problems, the ADEI assured to convey their grievances to higher authorities.
The ADEI Sanguem has been put in a piquant situation in Sanguem for want of sufficient number of teachers at his disposal.
