The Chimbel panchayat has finally cleared the waste that had piled near the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Indira Nagar.

The waste had been piling near the MRF since more than a month due to non acceptance of dry waste by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), which had resulted in the accumulated waste spilling onto the main road.

With the GWMC now accepting dry waste, the panchayat has started sending its dry waste on a regular basis.

However, with the piled waste proving just too much to handle, the panchayat authorities finally decided to send the same to the cement factories in Karnataka.

“To clear the garbage pile, a JCB machine was put into service to load the dry waste into the trucks. It took two days and a total of four truckloads of dry waste to clear the pile,” sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar informed.
