OLD GOA
The Chimbel panchayat has issued a show-cause notice to a panch over an illegal construction in the revenue village of Morombi-O-Grande.
The panch has been given 15 days to file reply to the notice seeking to know why the said structure should not be demolished, failing which the panchayat will go ahead with the demolition of the same.
The action of the panchayat comes upon the complaint of Revolutionary Goans leader Ajay Kholkar.
Speaking to The Goan, Kholkar said after his complaint, an inspection of the illegal structure was held last month, following which the show-cause notice has been issued.
“During the inspection, the panch remained absent. It remains to be seen whether the panch now replies to the notice,” Kholkar informed, while pointing out that the ownership of the property is also in question as the Form I & XIV does not figure in the name of the panch.
Kholkar further expressed surprise that such illegal constructions are being undertaken brazenly in the village with no fear for local authorities or the law of the land, particularly by migrants.
“Action is taken only after we lodge complaint but it is the duty of the panchayat to take suo moto action against illegal constructions that are being undertaken in the village,” he added.
Incidentally, the panchanama of the ground plus one structure puts the approximate estimated cost of construction at Rs 9 lakh.
