Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has appealed to people not to create obstacles and stop work on flimsy grounds, as it would hinder development works of government departments.
He was speaking at Betim-Verem after launching the work to lay underground cabling for the villages of Betim-Verem, Nerul and Saligao.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, Chief Electrical engineer Stephen Fernandes, ZP Member Sandeep Bandodkar, Reis Magos Sarpanch panchayat Sushmita Pednekar and panch members were present on the occasion.
“During the Cyclone Tauktae, Goans had faced a power outage for several days due to snapping of electricity wires. To avoid such a problem, there is a need to lay underground cables,” said Dhavalikar.
“Public support is very important for the completion of any government projects. If people create obstacles and stop work on flimsy grounds, the project will not only get delayed but the cost of the project will escalate.”
“Senior government officers have been given sufficient powers to execute their duties. They should use their powers and execute work within a specified time and provide better service to the people,” said Dhavalikar.
Saligao MLS Kedar Naik said residents of Saligao constituency, and Reis Magos in particular, have been facing a lot of inconvenience during monsoon due to snapping of overhead electricity wires.
“Once these electric wires are laid underground, the problems will get reduced and people will get uninterrupted power supply even during rainy season,” said Naik.
Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes said electricity wire of around 40 kms is being laid at Betim-Verem, Nerul and Saligao at a cost of Rs 18.2 crore, adding that this work is expected to be completed within 9 months.
