WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar has appealed to people from remote areas to make maximum use of available agricultural land for farming to get steady source of income.
“There is no limit in earnings from the agricultural sector if the available land is used judiciously for the purpose,” said Shirodkar, while speaking at a function organised by the WRD at Sanguem on the importance of judicious use of water.
Shirodkar said at the time of rehabilitation of the Selaulim Evacuees, the government had allocated 10,000 sq mtrs of agricultural land to the affected families to earn a livelihood from agricultural activities.
Shirodkar appealed to people to make best use of these plots of land for agricultural purpose.
Speaking further, he cited the example of export of agricultural produce from Dabolim Airport to foreign countries.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai also appealed to people to utilise various schemes by the WRD in the supply of water for agricultural purpose.
“Water released from Selaulim Dam not only serves the drinking water needs of the people from South Goa but also facilitates carrying on agricultural and industrial activities to a large extent in South Goa,” said Phaldessai.
