A 60-year-old female pillion rider from Sirsaim died while the rider was injured when the wheel disk of a two-wheeler broke in a freak mishap at Madel-Tivim.
The woman Vasanti Shirodkar had gone to visit her relatives at Dhamade-Tivim and Govardhan Malvankar of Dhamade was dropping her home on his two-wheeler on Monday evening.
The wheel disk suddenly broke near Major bakery at Madel and both fell on the road.
Both were admitted to district hospital and Shirodkar, who had sustained serious head injuries, was shifted to the Goa Medical College Hospital for further treatment, where she breathed her last on Tuesday morning.
The body was later handed over to relatives after a post mortem.
Police Sub-Inspector Sushant Sangodkar is investigating the matter.
