Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that the State
has taken many steps to provide world-class sports facilities to sportspersons. Counting the various initiatives taken by the State Government, he said that Sports Universities are being set up.
He was speaking at the launch of two books, one in football written by Manguesh Borkar, Senior Journalist at the function organised by Gomanta Kala Association at Ravindra Bhavan Margao on Tuesday.
He further admitted that they cannot provide coaches but said they can provide good infrastructure for the National Games. He mentioned they can provide part-time coaches to train for the games in various disciplines. The Chief Minister congratulated Manguesh Borkar for his 50 years of service as a journalist and said that sports journos can play an important role in providing records and stories.
He also called upon the industrialists and corporates for giving cooperation in the development of sports. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Narendra Sawaikar, former Member of Parliament graced the occasion.
