Claims for the BJP ticket has intensified in Canacona, with BJP karyakartas and supporters of Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes scheduled to meet in Polem-Loliem on Wednesday at 11 am in an apparent show of strength.According to sources, the meeting has been convened by BJP karyakartas and supporters of Fernandes to take a stand on his candidature at the forthcoming assembly elections in Canacona amid claims that the BJP has delayed in finalising the party ticket for Fernandes.
Incidentally, former minister and BJP State Vice President Ramesh Tawadkar, who had revolted against the party and had contested as an independent candidate, is also aspiring and campaigning heavily for the party ticket.
Recently, Tawadkar had convened a melava of workers at Amone, after holding a few corner meetings at Cotigao, Gaondongrim and Shrishthal.
However, many in the BJP Block, Yuva Morcha and Mahila Mandal are reportedly in favour of Fernandes to contest on the BJP ticket.
“It is not right for the BJP to give a party ticket to someone who had contested as a rebel candidate against the party in the past,” informed a block member.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar will be in Canacona to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a 650 CUM, GLR/SUMP and 300 CUM OHR at Daptamoll in Loliem-Polem village on Wednesday evening in the presence of Fernandes.
