CM asks plastic industry captains to relocate to Goa

PANAJI

In a bid to lure the industry into Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday asked captains of the plastic industry to invest in the State claiming it is a conducive location and should be considered a "preferred destination" by the industry.

Addressing entrepreneurs at a global convention of medium, small and micro enterprises in the plastic sector at a South Goa hotel, Sawant said plastic packaging inputs for the pharma sector and the IT industry makes Goa attractive for the industry.

"I urge the plastic industry stakeholders to look at Goa as a destination to invest. Goa has a very conducive climate for the industry. We also have many schemes and incentives for industries investing in the State," Sawant said addressing the entrepreneurs attending the convention.

Sawant said investors in IT, pharma and biotechnology in the State are doing "very well" adding that the plastic sector too has scope as it can be a major provider of packaging and moulded items to these industries.

He said, the plastic industry sector could reach an annual turnover of Rs 10 lakh crore by 2027 and be an employer of nearly one crore people over the next five years.
