PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met and interacted with the Konkani-speaking community in Kottayam, Kerala, on Wednesday.
Sawant also visited the Sree Venkateshwara Swami Temple in Kottayam.
On X, CM said, “Many trace their origins back to Goa, and their passion for our shared heritage, the Konkani language, and their efforts to preserve our rich culture are truly commendable.”
He said that the influx of the Konkani community to Kerala began in the 12th century for trade, but it was the Portuguese attack on Goa in the 16th century that prompted mass migration. “I am told that Kerala is home to nearly 3.5 lakh members of the Konkani-speaking community. Their love for Goa shines brightly, bridging the distance between us,” Sawant further said.
“The Southern part of India is totally supporting PM Modi. This time, we will have more than 10 seats in Kerala. I congratulate all the BJP workers in Kerala for their outstanding efforts,” Sawant told the media in Kerala.
