Even as the government-run primary schools continue to witness zero enrolments leading to their closure, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday claimed that the trend is now changing wherein parents are evincing interest to enrol their children in the State-run schools over aided institutions.
Addressing an event, Sawant, who also holds the Education portfolio, said that the trend of taking out students from government schools and moving them to aided schools is slowly changing in Goa. “Unlike the past… our government is giving a priority to the government-run schools…efforts are put in to ensure the best infrastructure, human resources and other digital platforms,” he said.
This year, the State saw seven government primary schools shutting down, while 35 more are facing closure due to nil enrolment.
Meanwhile, Sawant handed over springboard tablets to students from rural areas under the Infosys Springboard initiative. Under this programme, around 1,500 tablets will be distributed across 50 rural schools.
Calling it a pivotal moment for Goa’s education sector, Sawant said the initiative will help equip students with tools to dream bigger and achieve more. The Chief Minister said it would help bridge the digital divide and aid in digital skilling and empowering people. He directed the Education department to actively monitor the usage and outcomes of these tablets to ensure they benefit the students effectively.
Head and Chief Lead for Government Partnerships at Infosys Ltd, Santosh Ananthapura informed that the courses available on the tabs are aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
