PANAJI

The Congress has accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President and Rajya Sabha MP, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, of violating the Model Code of Conduct by using government machinery for party propaganda through the 'Viksit Bharat' campaign.

GPCC president, Amit Patkar siad, that the party has complained to Chief Electoral Officer, Goa and also to the returning officers of both the Lok Sabha seats -- the two district collectors -- and demanded that action be taken.

Aldona MLA, Carlos Alvares Fereira alleged that all the ministers and BJP leaders are using BJP caps, scarfs and propaganda material at these 'Viksit Bharat' events which are a Central government initiative.

"I want to ask how can authorities give permission to hold these events when the model code of  conduct has come into force?," he asked.

Alvares-Ferreira, a reputed lawyer and a former Advocate General of the State, said these permissions if any will be examined and if the ECI does not stop this abuse and misuse of government funds and machinery for the propaganda and glorification of Modi he will move the courts for relief.
