The Indian Coast Guard ship successfully recovered a dead body found floating at sea on Saturday afternoon, off the coast of Goa.
A Coast Guard Press release stated that Merchant Vessel MT Harmeez sighted a drifting dead body off Goa and reported to Mormugao Port signaling station at 2:45 pm.
“The same information was relayed to the Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 11 (Goa). Post receipt of information, Coast Guard Ship ICGS C-148 was dispatched with a Medical sailor, diver and necessary equipment embarked for recovery of the body. Local police personnel were also embarked during the operation. Upon arrival at the reported location, the ship initiated an extensive search and recovery operation. The ship was able to locate the body at 1715 hrs and recovered the same at 1750 hrs,” according to a statement.
“The body was handed over to the local police. The deceased has not been identified yet, and officials are currently investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of death and the person’s identity,” it added.
