The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Wednesday informed that to avail the benefits under newly introduced compensation scheme, the students of grade 10, will have to secure minimum of 61-70 per cent or above in any of the two skill subjects and another 51-60 per cent in other two skill subjects.
The scheme, introduced from the current academic year, is made applicable to those students who are remarked as “needs improvement” and so also the repeaters. The Board has further said that it will set the question papers for two skill subjects- Vocational Education and Physical Education, whereas the other two skill based subjects “Interdisciplinary area (IDA) and Art Education, setting of question paper and assessment will be done at the school level.
As against the earlier six subjects, the students will have ten subjects that include four skill-based subjects. Also, from this year, History and Geography is merged as a single subject ‘Social Science’.
The ten subjects are divided into Scholastic subjects -- Language 1, 2, 3, Social Science, Science and Mathematics and Skill-based subjects are Interdisciplinary area, NSQF/Others, Art Education and Physical Education.
In a circular issued to all secondary schools, Goa Board clarified that to avail compensation scheme, it has been decided that the candidate has to score minimum Grade D (61% to 70%) or above against the percentage of marks in any two skill subjects, provided he or she scores minimum E grade (51% to 60%) or above in the remaining two subjects.
As per the pattern of assessment, the student will have to score a minimum of 33 marks out of 100 in each skill based subject- this includes minimum of 7 marks in theory and 15 in practical.
The Board has scrapped age-old grace marks scheme while introducing Compensation Scheme.
