Benaulim locals demand removal of roadside vehicles

Say illegal parking on Tolleaband road puts motorists at risk

MARGAO
A group of residents from Benaulim on Tuesday demanded immediate removal of the dozens of vehicles, especially goods rickshaw carriers parked along the Tolleaband road.

Grrayfans Fernandes along with social activists told the media at the site that the goods carriers parked on the roadside has been posing danger to motorist travelling on the Tolleaband-Benaulim road.

Making a fervent appeal to the Powers that be to take note of the danger posed by the illegal parking, they said the Ministers and MLAs should not turn a blind eye to protect the interests of the vote banks.

Grrayfans informed that he has lodged an official complaint with the Colva Traffic Cell to remove all the vehicles parked on the Tolleaband road. He wondered how the illegal vehicle parking has escaped the attention of the Colva traffic cell.

He also urged the PWD Minister Digambar Kamat to explore the possibility of erecting speed breakers on the Tolleaband road, including the road stretch at the Western bypass underpass.

Santan Pereira has lamented that though the issue had figured at one of the Benaulim panchayat gram sabha, no action has been forthcoming from the concerned authorities.

“Why should the people complain of the illegal parking when the traffic police patrol the roads to rein in on traffic violators? The traffic police should note down the numbers of the vehicles and issue challans,” he demanded.
