The issue of the deteriorating condition of the Civil Court Building at Margao, which was taken up by the South Goa Advocates Association, came up for hearing on Wednesday before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.President of South Goa Advocates Association Adv Prasad Naik has told the media that the High Court has issued directions that the work on the repair of the court building be completed within 90 days.
It may be recalled that the South Goa Advocates Association had through its President Adv Prasad Naik approached the High Court for urgent relief to restore the condition of the aged old Civil Court Building.
Adv Prasad Naik had taken strong objection to the neglect of the building by the State machinery and the lawyers had also abstained from appearing in the Court Rooms, which were housed in the said building. Consequently, the building was vacated.
Adv Naik pointed out that during the hearing, the Government lawyer informed the High Court that on October 12 the Executing Engineer issued the work order for the completion of the works of the Civil Court building at Margao.
On October 18 a corrigendum was issued to clarify that the time limit for completion of the work would be 90 days.
Adv Prasad Naik has informed that the High Court has now directed that the work be completed within 90 days starting from October 18 and also has given directions that the copy of the Order by the High Court be furnished to the contractor so that the contractor does not delay the completion of these works for any reason. Further, the High Court has also directed the Executive Engineer to file an Affidavit/status report by December 16, he added.
