VALPOI: Large-scale mango grower Rakesh Singh from Sattari said this year’s bumper mango harvest has created serious marketing problems for farmers. He said Goa’s markets are flooded with mangoes from Karnataka, Kerala, Hyderabad and Maharashtra, causing prices of local mangoes to fall sharply.
Singh urged the government to monitor mangoes entering Goa through border check-posts, alleging that some raw mangoes are being artificially ripened using harmful chemicals. He also stressed the need for cold storage facilities in Goa, saying they would help protect local growers from losses and provide better support for the future of mango farming in the State.
