After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its list of candidates for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, the Congress is now gearing up to finalize its own nominees within the next two days.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar said on Tuesday that the party is in the final phase of talks with like-minded groups over a possible pre-poll alliance.
Discussions with the Goa Forward Party and the Revolutionary Goans Party are said to be nearing conclusion. “We have already received applications from the aspirants across all 50 constituencies. We will be finalizing our candidates in some constituencies within the coming two days,” Patkar said.
Patkar added that the party’s decision on alliances will be guided by the best interests of Goa and the need to oust the corrupt BJP government. “Our alliance talks with like-minded parties are in the final stage,” he maintained.
The recent show of unity among leaders of Congress, GFP and RGP during Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao’s birthday celebration has further fuelled speculation of a joint front against the BJP in the ZP polls, which are scheduled on December 20.
