Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has said the Congress will amend the Xth Schedule of the Constitution of India & make defection (leaving orginal party on which MLA or MP was elected) an automatic disqualification of the Membership of Assembly or Parliament.
Saying that BJP leader Vinod Tawde is worried because of the commitment of Congress, Yuri condemned the statement of Tawde alleging that Congress will change the Constitution, saying the Congress is here to protect the Constitution.
“We don’t want lessons on Constitution from those who murdered Constitution engineering mass defections. BJP has shown utmost disrespect to the Constitution," said Yuri.
He said BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde should have addressed the press conference with defectors Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira, Michael Lobo, Sankalp Amonkar & other four MLAs when he was speaking on Constitution.
“BJP has overturned many democratically elected governments in last ten years by encouraging defections. They even amended Municipal Law to get their chairperson elected in Margao Municipal Council who was earlier facing humiliating defeat, charged Yuri.
He added: “BJP is now worried because it is certain that INDIA Government will come to power in June 2024. After INDIA Government is formed all the States in which BJP grabbed power through backdoor will fall. Goa will also have a new Government”.
