Hitting out at Poinguinim ZP Shobhana Velip for her tirade against Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Cotigao Sarpanch Anandu Dessai said Velip should not have made a mountain out of a molehill with the sole aim to defame Tawadkar.
Velip had accused Tawadkar of threatening to disqualify her as Zilla Member if she failed to carry out beautification at Balram Residential School Complex.
Addressing a news conference, Dessai said there was no truth in her allegation that the speaker had threatened to disqualify her.
“Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar did not propose beautification near his Balaram Residential School. But Zilla Panchayat (South) Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar and Khola ZP member Shanu Velip informed wanted to do something near his school with the Zilla Panchayat funds,” said Dessai.
“MLAs get funds and he wanted, Tawadkar could have done work near his (Tawadkar) school from the MLA fund. Today, 20 houses each costing about Rs 10-15 lakh have been built in Canacona under the concept of Shramdham of Tawadkar. Why would the Speaker propose to do the work of Rs 5-10 lakh near his school,” asked Dessai.
State BJP Mahila Morcha Vice“President Chanda Desai said since Velip is the official candidate of BJP, they have worked round the clock to get her elected.
“But even after being BJP's ZP member, she does not work or do any work for the BJP. This incident of making serious accusations against the leader of our own party is unwarranted,” said Chanda Desai.
Others present at the news conference included Mahila Shakti Morcha Office-Bearer Vrinda Velip, Sarpanch of Poinguinim and Principal of Balram Residential School (Amone) Savita Tavadkar, Shristhal Sarpanch Sejal Gaonkar, Poonam Gaonkar, Panch Akshata Velip and Panch Shilpa Prabhugaonkar.
