State government has announced that it intends to commence the vaccination of the 18 to 44 years age category from May 15 in Goa.
It may be recalled that the government received three boxes containing 36,000 doses of Covishield vaccine on Wednesday at the Goa Airport.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the dates on Twitter by stating, “Our government will launch Covid-19 vaccination drive for the 18-45 age group on May 15, 2021. The vaccines will be administered free of cost across Goa through 35 government centres.
Citizens are urged to register themselves on the Co-WIN portal.”
The announcement comes as a major relief after an anxious wait since May 1 with this age category comprising the majority of the citizens belonging to productive age groups, who are likely to be exposed to the coronavirus.
The opening of the portal for vaccination at government centres is expected to bring down the high mortality rate which has been sending shudders across the State almost every day since the last month.
At this juncture, the State government has close to 2.5 lakh surplus doses of Covishield vaccine even as it prepares to prioritize the completion of vaccination for the 45 and above age category by June 10.
