Around 100 contract nurses who were roped in to fight the deadly second Covid wave at the South Goa district Covid hospital are waiting for the day when they will finally receive the promised remuneration.
Having put in hard work since they joined the hospital in April, some of these Covid warriors claimed they are yet to receive salaries of the last three months.
In fact, they said they are are not asking for their felicitation or any reward but the remuneration promised by the government.
'We have not received our remuneration for a single month since we joined duties in April. The government should understand us since we also have families to look after', remarked a beleaguered nurse.
Some of them claimed their information has attributed the delay in disbursement of their remuneration to paucity of funds.
When The Goan called up a Hospicio official to shed light on the claims made by the contract nurses, the official attributed the delay to the tedius procedure and party due to fund availability.
The official said Hospicio has already set in motion the process and have forwarded the same to the Director of Health services for disbursement. 'We should understand that the process is lengthy in nature. Not all the nurses had joined duties on one day but on various dates. On the other hand Hospicio has a lone accountant, who has to also cope with work of the hospital staff including 180 nurses, the official said, while saying the process is now almost complete.
A nurse, however, said that having put in hard work during the COVID crisis, the government should been proactive in resolving their grievances.
