City-based NGO, United Goans Foundation has knocked the doors of the Chief Secretary, who is the Chief Vigilance Officer and the SP (ACB), Vigilance for a probe into the civil works carried out within the South District Hospital building to scrutinize the quality of the civil works through Bore Testing and other means.
The NGO has further demanded investigations to unravel the understanding between GSIDC officers, engineers and the contractor, further calling for a thorough investigationsinto the assets of the GSIDC officers and engineers involved at various stages during the execution of the District Hospital Contract to establish the nexus between the officers and contractors.
In a petition made to the Chief Secretary and the Vigilance, UGF member Dominic Norohna said the collapse of the false ceiling of the district hospital last week is clear that the GSIDC has acted in an unprofessional and suspicious manner, by not initiating stringent actions, which is now putting the lives of the normal citizen under risk of injury and possible death.
Saying the south district hospital has been in the news for the wrong reasons, the UGF pointed out that inspection of the files by its member had allegedly brought to light some serious concerns about the quality and processes which was raised by a consultant. “After the false ceiling crash incident, we are now having concerns in public interest about the works that had been observed and reported by the consultant”, Norohna said.
The complaint has been filed against the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), its employees and a Private contractor for involvement in executing the work contract at the South Goa District Hospital at Fatorda, jeopardizing the lives of doctors, patients and citizens.
Another complaint was lodged against the contractor for undertaking the work, causing risk to the citizens.
The UGF has also filed a complaint against GSIDC officials for alleged dereliction of duties and failure to initiate action against the contractor.
