Crime Branch probing fake profiles of mins, MLAs: CM

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that the Crime Branch is investigating all cases involving fake WhatsApp messages that targeted a few ministers and legislators.

In the past two days, unknown miscreants have contacted people using impersonated WhatsApp profiles of these ministers and MLAs. While no instances of financial demands have been reported so far, initial messages suggest the impersonators attempted to initiate conversations, possibly to build trust with the recipients.

Four ministers”Ravi Naik, Mauvin Godinho, Rohan Khaunte, and Nilkanth Halarnkar”along with MLAs Jit Arolkar, Nilesh Cabral, and Premendra Shet, have been targeted by the impersonators.

Though police complaints have been filed, the CM and complainants have urged the public not to fall prey to these messages. Crime Branch officials stated that complaints have been filed at the respective police stations, and they are closely monitoring the cases. Cybercrime experts will be roped in to trace the impersonators and bring them to book.
