CS to hold meet with 'Smart City' contractors to speed up work

PANAJI

A crucial meeting has been convened on Tuesday where Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel will hold discussions with all the contractors and government department officials linked to the ongoing execution of Smart City work in the capital city in a bid to decide a timeline and also strategise early completion of the projects.

Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, who represents Panaji and has been at the receiving end of criticism over the chaos the work has spewn in the capital city, said the meeting is being held to decide a stringent time-table for the work.

“As far as possible works will be taken up at a single stretch of time,” Monserrate said, asserting that all encroachments along the roadside will be removed.

The minister also asserted that all the Smart City work will be completed by May 31 this year but expressed concern over the quality.

“As far as quality is concerned, I cannot vouch for it now. That we will have to see afterwards,” Monserrate said.

Traffic jams, dust pollution and other hurdles caused by the trenches and pits dug along the capital's roads has thrown commuting in the city into total disarray for the last couple of months and voices of the dissent over the situation have been growing over the last few weeks.
