OLD GOA
The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) members of the Cumbarjua constituency have objected to the eco-tourism project that is being approved by the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) near Monte Chapel at Old Goa.

And around 35 different objections from locals of Old Goa have been filed with the Se Old Goa panchayat on Saturday. RGP leader Gauresh Mandrekar along with Cumbarjua RGP block president Rupesh Bhandari then met sarpanch Vishwas Kuttikar and outlined the reasons for their objections to the project.

Later, speaking to The Goan, Mandrekar informed that they will file the objections with the Department of Industries, Trade and Commerce, on Monday.

“The eco-tourism project is in close proximity to the State heritage monument and the proposed site is in no development zone,” Mandrekar informed while stating for the project there will be a need for hill cutting, and land-filling which will lead to the destruction of the monument.

Mandrekar also informed that the green cover of the area will also be destroyed thereby affecting the bio-diversity of the area as well.

Meanwhile, sarpanch Kuttikar informed that the issue will be taken up at the gram sabha that will be held on Sunday. “We have received many letters of objection to the project and the issue will be discussed at length based on the objections received,” Kuttkar stated.

However, he informed that the panchayat had written to the Department of Industries seeking information on the project. “It’s been 10 days now but we have not received any information,” Kuttikar added.
