The Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police is investigating a complaint of Rs 90 lakh fraud through an online scam involving the GIMC App.
Panaji-resident Kalpana Govekar alleged that unknown persons, using the GIMC App and other means, contacted her via social media platforms and WhatsApp persuading her to download the GIMC collar India app while promising her lucrative returns on institutional free market trading.
“Under the pretext of huge returns on investment, the accused convinced Govekar to transfer Rs 90 lakhs to various bank accounts. However, they cheated her of the total sum,” the police said.
An FIR has been registered against the unknown persons for impersonation, cheating and misuse of computer resources.
The Cyber Crime Cell has been issuing advisories urging citizens to exercise caution and vigilance during online transactions and to report any suspicious activities promptly.
