Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday urged students to pick government high schools for admissions even as he patted officials of the education ministry and department besides headmasters for achieving the 100 per-cent pass percentage in 41 of the 78 government high schools at the SSC examination, results of which were declared on Wednesday by the Goa Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE).
"It is with happiness that I announce that 41 of the 78 government High Schools have achieved 100 per cent results. Congratulations and my best wishes to the headmasters and all the teachers of these schools," Sawant, who was flanked by Education Secretary, Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, and Director of Education, Shailesh Zingde, said while addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat in Porvorim.
Sawant also lauded the efforts put in by Lolayekar, Zingde and other officials of the education ministry, in upgrading infrastructure in government high schools and introducing training modules for teachers.
He also feted each of them with floral bouquets even as he said, efforts will continuously be put in to ensure standards are raised in all government schools to make them the first choice of students for admission over private schools.
Sawant also said that his government will ensure that no student is in a situation where he/she is without admission to Std XI.
The State, he said, has 104 Higher Secondary Schools including nine run by the government, 91 aided HSSs managed by societies and other institutions and 4 private HSSs which are unaided.
Meanwhile, Lolayekar disclosed that the Goa government has tied up with some well known entities to improve quality of education imparted in goernment run institutions.
The Education Department has tied up with Antara Foundation to provide career counseling services to school students and with IT giant Tata Consultancy Services for software related training, Lolayekar said.
Also, for the continuous training of faculty in the sciences, the department has tied up with the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) Bengaluru, which is recognised as one of the world's top ranked institute, he added.
