Difficult days ahead for Sawant's govt: Parsekar

PANAJI

Judging by rumblings within the ruling dispensation which have spilled out in the media in recent times, difficult days might be ahead for the BJP-led coalition government led by newly sworn-in Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, ex-CM Laxmikant Parsekar said on Monday.

Parsekar, who was present at the swearing-in ceremony in capacity as a former Chief Minister, also did not rule out joining the BJP in the future, adding that time would help him take a decision on the matter.

"I cannot predict the future. But the rumblings I hear from the media, indicates that it will be difficult. But my good wishes are there," Parsekar told reporters, while also congratulating the new dispensation.

When asked if he would support the Sawant-led government, Parsekar said: "I am not an MLA so there is no question of supporting the government".

Speaking about the ups and down in his relationship with the BJP, Parsekar, who served as Chief Minister from 2014-2017 said: "I have spent a lot of time with the party, it will not be easy to be negative so quickly. I was a part of the initial struggle. I was meted an insult so I reacted to that insult".

But he however did not give a concrete response as to whether he would be joining the BJP in the future.

"Time will decide. But as of now, after resigning from the party I did not enter any other party. I do not feel like joining any. But the coming time will decide," Parsekar said.

Parsekar had rebelled against the BJP ahead of the February 14 polls and had contested the assembly polls from the Mandrem assembly constituency, which eventually elected Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA Jit Arolkar.
