Senior police officer Bosco George, who spared no one for their involvement in criminal activity, will retire on Tuesday after serving for 36 years in various capacities.The officer led the probe into the sensational Scarlet Keeling Eden death case, attack on the Panaji police station, rape of a German teenager, etc as Superintendent of North Goa Police.
In his long career, since he started as Sub Inspector in 1987, the officer served at various police stations and sub-divisions and had multiple stints as Superintendent of Police of various crucial units of the elite force. As Commandant of the Indian Reserve Battalion, he uplifted the competence of the three battalions.
Having earned the tag of being an upright and conscientious police officer, he also supervised high-profile corruption cases against senior politicians including MLAs“ some of whom are currently in the ruling - and a bribery case against former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s brother-in-law Dilip Malvankar, as the SP of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
The veteran SP was inducted into the Indian Police Service (AGMUT-cadre) in 2019 and served a complete term in Arunachal Pradesh before returning to his home State last year. He retires as the Deputy Inspector General of Goa Police and Inspector General of Goa Prisons, which was his additional charge.
In his parting speech on Monday, the IPS officer called his 36 years journey in uniform ‘exciting and challenging.’
“The time has finally come to say “Alvida” and hang up my boots, after starting as a SI at the Maharashtra Police Training College and again as a DySp now renamed as Maharashtra Police Academy, it’s been an exciting and challenging journey as a Police Officer starting my Probation in Nasik Maharashtra and as an IPS officer in Arunachal and Goa,” he said adding, “It's been a privilege to have been your friend and I shall cherish a lot of pleasant memories, so now I will be as they say 'Every citizen is a Policemen without a uniform and every policeman is a citizen in Uniform.'”
