A step toward strengthening Goa’s digital sector, the State government announced the setting up of a state-of-the-art data centre through a public-private partnership (PPP) model “ a bid to position Goa as a key player in India’s growing tech ecosystem.
Unveiling the Budget 2025-26 on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the process for setting up the Data Center is already underway. Along with this, a Center of Excellence in Cyber Security, Cloud Computing and Data Science will be developed to foster innovation, skill development and employment opportunities.
The government has earmarked Rs 150 crores for the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department.
Under the Mahila Digital Empowerment Scheme, the State will provide free IT training and awareness programs to 5,000 women, enabling them with essential digital skills and enhancing their career prospects.
Moreover, under the Central Government’s “Namo Drone Didi Scheme”, the State will train 100 women as “Swayampurna Drone Pilots” and prepare “Swayampurna Drone Technicians,” opening up employment avenues in the drone technology sector.
Acknowledging the saturation of IT startups in metropolitan hubs, the government plans to attract private sector investments to set up Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Goa. These centres will generate new job opportunities and strengthen the IT ecosystem in the state.
The CM further said that to boost local businesses, the government will introduce a “Preferential Policy” to encourage Goan companies to participate in government IT-related projects. The ‘Goa Online’ portal will be strengthened to ensure quality and seamless digital services for citizens.
“The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster has been developed as a major investment hub, offering multiple benefits to industries setting up units in the state. The government has upgraded infrastructure for this cluster with an investment of Rs 161.32 crores, attracting investments worth Rs 341 crores and creating potential employment for 3,600 people. A dedicated corridor to the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster will be developed to enhance connectivity,” he added.
