MARGAO
With the government authorities taking up the work of rebuilding the house of retired Home guard Vimal Shirodkar, concerned citizens of Margao have now decided to use the money generated through donations to purchase furniture and utensils.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had on Tuesday directed the authorities including Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar to take up the job of rebuilding Vimal’s house on priority. The MLA had told the Mamatdar that the authorities should ensure that a pucca house is rebuilt for Vimal at the site where her house had collapsed on Sunday.
Meanwhile, South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes on Thursday visited Vimal Shirodkar's house site to ascertain whether the reconstruction of the house of Vimal had commenced.
Captain Viriato said he has inquired with the district Collector about Vimal's house, adding that he has been informed that Rs two lakhs has been sanctioned for the same. He urged Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to get sanctions for reconstruction of other houses damaged in Margao this week.
“Through our move to support Vimal in rebuilding her house, we wanted to send a signal that people of all religions have come forward to help Vimal”, informed Savio Coutinho, adding “this is the communal harmony and Goenkarpon with which we Goans live”.
Coutinho hoped that the PWD Contractor executes good quality work and completes the house as soon as possible so as to facilitate Vimal to return back to her home.
South District Congress president Savio D'silva thanked all the people who contributed generously to the cause.
