Don’t club every issue to tourism, need ‘responsible’ media: Khaunte

MAPUSA

Stung by the drugs-related reportage when the State is gearing up for the new tourism season, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said it wasn’t right to view every development in the State through the prism of tourism and also called for “responsible” media.

Khaunte also said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has taken a clear stand against drugs and action has also been initiated in that direction.

“When we say responsible and sustainable tourism, we also expect responsible media. On the drugs issue, the CM has taken a very clear stand to say no to drugs. Activities in that direction have also started,” Khaunte said.

He said he has been raising several issues may it be in case of drugs, illegalities, prostitution, illegal guides, hawkers, etc. with the chief minister.

“We are very serious on illegalities. The CM has shown it in his action and in the days to come you will see a lot of more action happening,” he said.

“I am appealing to the media, let us create a positive thought for Goa. We have to give a message that Goa is safe and secure. Let us work together to achieve this,” he added.

The recent murder of BJP leader and high-profile Tik-Tok star Sonali Phogat has brought the issue of drugs in the focus. The drugs-related arrests carried out by the Hyderabad police in the State have also dented the image of Goa to some extent.
