The Electricity Department has cautioned consumers to be alert regarding a fake SMS being circulated by fraudsters.
The department has warned consumers to refrain from making any payments using the link sent in the message.
“Fraud messages for disconnecting the power supply for non-payments of electricity bills are being circulated by unknown persons. All are requested not to carry out any payments on the link provided by them or share any details/OTP. Kindly be informed that the Electricity Department will not send any such messages through SMS or WhatsApp for immediate disconnection of power supply. In case of any further clarification contact our toll-free helpline no at 1912 or at 0832-2490800,” states a public notice by the Chief Electrical Engineer.
There have been complaints that many electricity consumers have been receiving a fraud message with a text “Dear Customer, Your Electricity power will be disconnected. Tonight at 9.30 pm from the electricity office. because your previous month's bill was not updated. Please immediately contact our electricity officer +919937732563.”
