The Directorate of Education (DoE) on Tuesday announced that Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) would be an essential qualification for direct recruitment of all teaching posts at the elementary level.
In a circular issued, Director Education Shailesh Zingde said that TET will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
As per the provisions of Right to Education Act, it is essential for a teacher to qualify in the test to be employed to teach at Class I to VIII. The TET was implemented in the State from 2021 onwards.
Zingade said that on the implementation of Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 and Rules 2012, the recruitment rules prescribed by NCTE are applicable to all the recognized elementary schools.
The TET is conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). A person has to score 60 per cent or atleast 90 marks out of 150 to pass the test. SCERT, thereafter issues certificates to all the qualifying candidates.
