The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) had taken up discussion on the charter of demands from the Goa Municipal Employees Association in a council meeting held sometime ago, but the council decided to hold it abeyance due to the weak position of the council.

The council resolved that the financial position of the municipality should be evaluated first before taking any decision on the charter.

Councillor Shashank Narvekar had said the financial situation of the council was not sound in order to accept the demands of the employees at present.

He also said the file pertaining to the charter of demands should be sent for legal opinion.

Councillor Prakash Bhivshet had said the note on the proposal of the charter of demands should be processed properly and should come through proper channel.

He had said the note should be signed by all the municipal officers, councillors and the employees union staff present for the meeting.

The Goa Municipal Employees Association on Tuesday served a strike notice to the Mapusa municipality stating that the civic employees will go on strike from October 10.
