Engineers now will be eligible for CMRY aid

PANAJI

The Goa cabinet on Wednesday approved an amendment of the rules of the Chief Minister's Rojgar Yojna (CMRY) to provide for financial assistance to engineers seeking to take up government contracts under a recent scheme mooted by the government.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the changes in the rules of CMRY were necessary to ensure engineers are eligible for financial aid under the scheme designed to promote self-employment.

Engineers, both degree and diploma holders, were recently permitted to register via the Town and Country Planning Department and bid for small contracts.

Wednesday's amendment to the CMRY rules will now permit these engineers to avail limited financial aid to meet the initial costs of executing contracts, including payment of Earnest Money Deposit (EMD), government sources said.

The move to encourage engineers to take up contracts was an idea conceived last year after the unemployment rate among their ranks shot up in the face of the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
