Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) has called on all electricity consumers in Goa to be alert and examine the implications of the tariff proposal for 2021-22 submitted by the Goa Electricity Department to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).
The tariff proposal of the Electricity department proposes to mop up Rs 122.75 crore from consumers while Rs 178.65 crore is the expected budgetary support from the Goa government to address the overall revenue gap of Rs 301.40 crore, points out Roland Martins, coordinator, GOACAN.
Martins states that JERC has issued a public notice on December 30 stating that the Electricity Department Goa has submitted a petition for approval of truing up for the financial year 2016-17, review of the financial year 2020-21 and aggregate revenue requirement and tariff proposal for 2021-22. The petition which has been admitted as Petition No 39/2020 dated 28/12/2020 and which is available on the JERC website www.jercuts.gov.in has stated that the last date for submitting objections, suggestions and comments on the petition is January 20, 2021, and in view of the pandemic the public hearing will be held through video conferencing mode and the date for the same will be announced later.
GOACAN reminds all domestic and commercial electricity consumers, stakeholders from the industrial estates, travel and tourism trade, agriculture and various professionals that in view of the Electricity Department’s proposed rationalization of tariffs, removing of slab benefits and the introduction of non-telescopic billing, they must submit their objections, suggestions and comments within the stipulated time so that the same may be considered by the JERC.
