Ex-Cortalim panch only person elected unopposed in Mormugao

Cortalim outgoing panch Manuel P F Silva on Wednesday became the only person to have been elected unopposed in Mormugao Taluka after he got elected unopposed  from ward no 4 in  Cortalim Panchayat.

Silva was on Wednesday evening handed over the certificate by the Cortalim returning officer Ranjit Salgaonkar in the presence of former Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira and others. 

" Manuel Silva is the only candidate in the ward no 4 in Cortalim village Panchayat and the only person who has filed the candidature against him has withdrawn today and I Ranjit Salgaonkar as the returning officer of the elections for Cortalim Panchayat and I declare Manuel Silva to have been elected unopposed to be the member of Cortalim Panchayat for ward no 4 reserved for ST and I grant him the certificate of election," said returning officer Ranjit Salgaonkar.

Speaking to media , newly elected unopposed panch member Manuel PF Silva said that he was happy that he had been the only person elected unopposed from the entire Mormugao Taluka and thanked Cortalim MLA Anton Vas for offering him the support. 

"I was the outgoing panch of ward no 4 of Cortalim Panchayat and after the ward was reserved for ST ,I again filed my nomination in the ward. I had taken a lot of development works and I have been supported by Cortalim MLA Anton Vas and the people have given me yet another chance to be their representative in the panchayat. While I thank the people for their support, I want to assure that I will continue to work for them and take up a large number of development works for their benefits. I have been elected for the second consecutive time from my ward because no one has filed their candidature from this ward this time " said Silva.
