Upset that the Gandaulim bridge doesn’t connect to the village despite passing through it, Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai has demanded that the government build a new bridge which will connect to the village and provide better connectivity to the villagers.
Taking up the issue on behalf of the villagers of Cumbarjua, MLA Rajesh Faldesai stated that to alleviate the sufferings of the villagers of Cumbarjua, it was the need of the hour to build two bridges, one to connect the village of Cumbajua with Gandaulim and another overbridge at Dhauji railway crossing to help reduce the waiting time.
“The people of the village who have sacrificed their lands for the new Gandaulim bridge have received no benefit with the bridge completely bypassing the island and offering no connectivity whatsoever,” Faldesai said.
“The villagers continue to have to use the ferry to travel out of the island which is a huge inconvenience and speaks volumes of the lack of planning by the previous government when sanctioning a bridge worth crores that is completely useless for the people of the village,” he added.
Similarly, Faldessai demanded a flyover bridge at the railway crossing at Dhauji to help reduce the long waiting time the villagers experience at the crossing.
