FDA orders closure of unhygienic police canteen

The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has ordered closure of GRP (Goa Reserve Police) canteen, situated at Altinho, for being operational in unhygienic condition and without valid registration.

The FDA in a notice issued has directed the canteen operator to stop the food business activity with immediate effect and to apply for registration with the Directorate under Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act 2006 within 15 days.

During the inspection conducted on Friday, the FDA observed that the facility, with annual turnover of less than Rs 12 lakh per annum, is operational without registering. 

“Commencing or carrying out any food business without registration as required under FSS Act 2006, is in violation of Section 31 (2) and is punishable under Section 58 of the said Act,” the notice stated.

During the inspection it was also found that the deep cleaning of the kitchen was not done, no fly proof net was provided in the kitchen, non-display of No Smoking Board among others.
