MARGAO
Officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized approximately 540 kilograms of mava, valued at around Rs 1.89 lakh in the market, during raids in Margao on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the FDA team raided several sweet mart shops and also intercepted a vehicle transporting the consignment. The seized mava will be disposed of at Sonsodo.

FDA officials explained that the shops had procured the product in violation of established rules. The consignment lacked proper labelling and the packaging date, and the mava was transported in vehicles that did not have refrigerated facilities, which is required for such perishable goods. FDA officer Richard Norohna stated that sweet mart shop owners had been previously trained and sensitised on the issue, but to no avail.

The FDA has warned that similar raids will continue in the future.
