Fire at Curti substation disrupts power to Ponda, surrounding villages

A fire at the Curti substation of the electricity department disrupted power supply to Ponda town and surrounding villages on Thursday morning.
According to reports, sparks were noticed at the Curti substation at about 11.15 am and a short while later, equipment supplying electricity caught fire, which quickly spread in the substation.
Employees shut down power at the substation, disrupting power supply to Ponda municipality, Bethora, Marcaim, Kavale Bandora, Kurti-Khandepar and surrounding areas. Power supply was restored after an hour.
Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar was attending an event at Gawane, when he was notified about the fire incident. He contacted officials concerned and directed them to take all precautions.
The exact extent of damage to the substation on account of the fire could not be known till late evening.
