PERNEM
Tension prevailed over a flea market at a beach resort in Mandrem on Friday night, after the panchayat demanded action against the organisers for holding the flea market without any permission from the panchayat.
Adv Sawant stated that the beach resort had not sought permission from the panchayat to hold the flea market on Friday night.
The Mandrem Panchayat then sent a letter to the Pernem police station on Friday, asking them to shutdown the flea market and to take action against the organisers. A copy of the letter was also served on the beach resort.
“Mandrem Panchayat is keen to keep the coastal village safe and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should take serious note of this incident and ban such flea markets,” said Adv Sawant.
Acting on the request of the panchayat, a police team went to the beach resort but later stated that they did not find anything objectionable and hence, no action was taken against anyone.
