Former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Saturday demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for failing to protect the people of Goa especially women and minors even though there was an NSA invoked in South Goa, restricting the movement of people.
Wondering why is the CM even allowed to remain in office for his patronizing sermons to the people of Goa, Mickky said Goa was always a safe place and people especially single woman and our own mothers, sisters and daughters would walk about freely at any time of the day. “We never had CMs, Ministers and MLAs asking us to remain indoors as Goa was always safe. Where will those lakhs of women tourists that you are asking to visit (despite the pandemic) go if you ask them to go indoors after dusk? Where will those women doctors and nurses who are taking care of Goans during this pandemic at late hours go if they cannot venture out?” the former tourism minister demanded to know.
Pointing out to the government’s effort to spin off its failure by first asking parents to take care of their children and then giving the event a subtle communal twist, Pacheco asks “on one hand CM says it was the parent’s duty to ensure the safety of their children so why is he the CM or the Home Minister? Isn’t the safety of Goan citizens on the streets and outside their homes the responsibility of the police and the state government?”
Saying that none of the legislators argued in the house why crimes were happening in south Goa when NSA is enforced in the district, Mickky said the brutal gang rape of the two minors in Benaulim and another case in Quepem which is Deputy CM’s constituency is a blot on the name of Goa thanks to an incompetent Government.
