Goencho Avaaz Party has accused Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for his role in de-notifying land acquired by the State government to set up a parking lot for the Dabolim airport, which could lead to demolition of houses in Shantinagar.
"Due to the unethical action of these politicians, a number of families stand to lose their homes,” alleged Goencho Avaaz Party State Convenor Capt. Viriato Fernandes.
“The 36,800 square metres of land, now in the hands of a commercial builder, was de-notified by authorities on the firm assurance of Godinho that alternate land of 70,000 square metres was available opposite the airport.”
“While a commercial building has already come up, the obviously non-existent parcel of land identified by Godinho is yet to be discovered. As a result, land has now been earmarked at Shantinagar for this purpose, which will result in the demolition of a large number of homes," said Capt. Fernandes.
He said the issue began in 2009, when Sancoale Comunidade passed a resolution declaring that a plot of land acquired for car parking to ease traffic congestion at the airport, did not belong to them, but to Chicalim Comunidade.
“The acquired land was de-notified “midnight” as alleged by then leader of opposition late Manohar Parrikar. A builder has set up a commercial structure on the originally allocated land.”
“Upon further scrutiny, the draft ODP 2030 also reveals a 60-mtr road expansion from the airport to the demarcated parking lot at Shantinagar. All this will result in innocent Goans losing their houses,” he added.
