CANACONA
In a noble gesture, the Gaondongrim panchayat has decided to provide financial support to an 8-year-old orphan from the village.
The boy lost his father about 15 days ago, while his mother has passed away when he was barely one-and-half years old.
The boy is now being looked after by his uncle, who has no proper source of income.
“The panchayat has decided to care of the boy’s sustenance till alternate or suitable arrangements are in place for his financial needs,” said Gaondongrim Sarpanch Suman Gaonkar.
“The panchayat members were moved by the plight of the boy, after he lost both his parents while he is only 8 years old. All Panch members and even panchayat staff went to the house to meet the boy and we have assured his guardian of providing support for the boy’s sustenance.”
“Since the boy has lost both parents, the process is underway to make his uncle the legal guardian and we are pleased that the boy is at ease and is happy to stay with his uncle.”
The sarpanch said the panchayat will provide financial help to the child every month till he gets dedicated financial assistance/benefits from the government or any other organisation/agency.
“We also plan to apply for monthly assistance through tribal funds, but we are also appealing to generous donors to support support the child financially for his education and sustenance till he becomes a major. We appeal to generous people to come forward and support this boy,” said the sarpanch.
