GFP govt not to treat Zilla win as mandate to make State a coal hub

MARGAO
Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has warned the government not to treat the Zilla Panchayat election result as a mandate to make Goa a coal hub or pursue the track-doubling project and sell the state’s interest in Mhadei to neighbouring Karnataka.

Sardesai said he was shocked and surprised to learn that the government is taking the election result as a mandate against the anti-coal agitation. “The ZP result is not a mandate to make Goa a coal corridor or divert Mhadei’s river to Karnataka,” he added.

“The BJP and the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should desist from trying to portray that the ZP mandate is against those who are fighting on the ground to protect the state’s environment for posterity,” he said.
