The Goa Medical College (GMC) & Hospital, Bambolim, is set to hire at least 40 nurses, many on contract basis and some for leave vacancies, besides some other staff.
On Tuesday the State's premier healthcare institution announced 66 positions on contract basis for its different departments.
According to the announcement, the interviews for these positions are slated to be held on September 24 and 25.
These posts include 40 staff nurses, two Lower Division Clerks (LDCs), five anaesthetic assistants, two physiotherapists, four laboratory technicians, three speech language pathologists, one medico-social worker and two audiologists.
Four junior technicians for different specialities will also be hired, the announcement said.
The GMC which is the State's premier public health institution with a fair reputation for tertiary healthcare services perennially faces staff shortages at all levels.
Exactly a year ago, the institution had recruited 60 doctors as 'junior residents' at a consolidated Rs 60,000 per-month package after a scathing observation in the CAG report had flagged a nearly 51 percent shortage of staff across categories.
The CAG's 2022-23 performance audit report on Public Health infrastructure and management of health services in the State, "severe shortages" of doctors, nurses and paramedics in public hospitals were flagged.
It said the shortages at the Goa Medical College and Hospital were to the extent of 51 percent of its sanctioned strength across the posts of doctors and medical officers.
